Dear Sally
I recently saw the BBC series on DVD "Fingersmith" and "Velvet Tiping" In my opinion you are very good actress! I think its wonderful you played gay persons wich is very unusual I lovend the 19th century costumes and yet you show that even so called bad persons are in some sense good
I hope you,ll forgive my faults in my writing It is because I,m not British
Yours cincerly

Ms. Hawkins,
Just read an interview with you in the Guardian in which a something weird happened to your eyes during a movie screening.
I suggest you see an ophthalmologist.
All the best.

Sally - I have for years sought to plumb the reality/fantasy of Anne Elliot - I find your projection of Anne immensely provoking ... provoking me into wondering more about Anne - as a love, stoic and - ultimately - a human being in the trap of family so alien to her; a family who had worked on her at 19 to accomplish the rejection of the one heart - after her mother's death - she knows she can live with - her fate veered toward 'more than her spirits could bear' - how does she keep her sanity? - Austen seems to have worked this out ... you seem to have worked it out ... I watch your projection and I wonder if I can get there - thank you, Sally - James

Hola Sally - Just a quick note to gush about your performance as Anne Elliot in Persuasion. It opened up Jane Austen's work for me much more deeply than before, and I unabashedly tell everyone that Anne Elliot is my greatest hero/heroin in all of literature, and refer them to your performance. I especially love the asides where you/Anne looked directly into the camera, inviting us into Anne/Jane's most private and passionate moments. I've never seen anything so personal and intimate in film or theatre before, and it was quite brilliant, and life changing. I'm certain no-one could have done it quite like you did, with such vulnerability. I hope that we see more of your work on screen in the future.

         Yours,
